Aquatic species Registry Exchange and Services
The main objective of this project is to ensure and enhance the interoperability and public availability of the aquatic species databases WoRMS and FADA through the development of a set of web services. Such services can guarantee the automatic and timely exchange of data between WoRMS and FADA, but also expose the data for use in other initiatives and applications. On top of these web services, we aim to develop tools to perform data quality control of species related data, by improving and extending the ‘fuzzy matching algorithm for genus and species scientific names’ (Taxamatch) tool and building on other existing services.

Geography of Inshore Fisheries and Sustainability
The Channel & North Sea are home to a vitally important fishing industry that is facing significant changes and challenges. Policy responses to reductions in fish stocks impact on communities that depend upon fishing, with social and economic consequences. The aim of the GIFS project is to explore, across the common priority area, the socio-economic and cultural importance of inshore fishing and to provide a demonstration project in fisheries based community regeneration.

Long term trends in the macrobenthos of the Belgian Continental Shelf
To explore the effects of natural and anthropogenic impacts, macrobenthos is used. Also because of their direct link with the sediment and the processes just above it. The goal of this project is to contribute to the knowledge of the long-term variability in the biodiversity of the macrobenthos and its relationship to human activities.
