European Marine Biological Resource Centre

EMBRC is a coordinating research infrastructure providing access to marine biodiversity and consists of state-of-the-art research facilities and training at marine research stations throughout Europe.

EMBRC will provide end users from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), academia and industry with access to marine biodiversity, extractable products and its associated metadata. This includes marine biological species (models), biobanks, ‘omics’ platforms, structural facilities and imaging (microscopy, cytometry, etc.).
State-of-the-art research facilities and training are also included in this coordinating research infrastructure.
EMBRC is in line with current national and international strategic priorities such as sustainable marine resource management, human health, biodiversity, food security and climate change.
The topics EMBRC deals with are: biodiversity and ecosystem function, evolutionary developmental biology, biogeochemistry and climate change, marine products and resources, and biomedical sciences.
Through the research infrastructure present at the Marine Station Ostende VLIZ, together with the culture collections and other research facilities of the marine research groups of Ghent university, will be included in EMBRC.

EMBRC is part of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI).
